To Anne Marie Gabriel

The damned one has earned an escape from his hell,
And spends his brief freedom at the masquerade.
The beauty by his side makes his sad heart swell,
And he never will let this memory fade.

With her clear, bright, grey eyes and long, soft, bronze hair,
Her musical voice, her so beautiful smile,
And tall, gorgeous body made her the most fair,
The most perfect beauty in many a mile.

He holds her close as they sway softly in tune,
Dancing cheek to cheek, nothing else in the world.
So slow gently circles the sun 'round the moon
As around one another, four arms are curled.

He knows well she could be the one he has sought;
The woman who one day will lift his life's curse.
He rarely has felt so much joy as she brought
When she smiled as he sang her the music's verse.

Just being with her was like heaven to him.
To hold her soft body was straight from his dreams.
But he was still slave to the Fates' merest whim.
And his curse tore his joy apart at the seams.

The music had ended, the Ball was over.
His time was up, and he had to let her go.
The music had ended, it was all over.
He thought he loved her, but dare he let her know?

He can't quit the game, though he knows he can't win.
Thrust back into hell after tasting such bliss.
He longs to repent, but he knows not his sin,
But she could forgive and cure him with a kiss.

The masked shadow and the beautiful lady
Forever are dancing in his memory.
