A Happy Poem

I guess it really isn't all that bad.
I just think it is when I feel sad.
I've had happiness from time to time,
And maybe happiness is not a crime,
And maybe some things are not a test,
And maybe I'm no more damned than the rest.
There are a lot of things that make me happy.
I feel good when I make people laugh.
I like to give happiness to people I care about,
To make people feel safe.
And there are simple things like good music,
And warm, furry, soft, purring cats,
Making a drawing that I really like,
Watching a good movie with a good friend,
Seeing one of my programs finally work,
And getting a new set of dice.
And there are a lot of happy things that are less simple.
The happiest I've ever been was being in love,
Sharing my life with someone, completely,
Giving all that I had and all that I was,
To, in our union, become complete,
And, in making love with the woman I loved,
Sharing our selves, finding new heights of bliss.
But I don't really need all that much to be happy.
I was very happy dancing with a beautiful friend,
Giving a close friend a needed massage,
Watching the sun rise with some of my best friends,
Holding a new friend, hoping to make her feel better.
I guess all I really need is friends,
And I can be happy, too.
