Don't Talk to Me About Life
or NO SNIVELLING

Deny everything you've ever believed.
Give up on everything you've ever expected.
Doubt everything you've ever known.
Then you can talk to me about faith.

Look down the barrel of a loaded gun.
Keep your eyes open and your tears smiling.
Your only hope in all the world being not to miss.
Then you can talk to me about fear.

Keep pushing your imagination right past the limit.
Let your curiosity run wild where philosophers don't dare.
Surprise yourself laughing at your own scary jokes.
Then you can talk to me about reality.

Fall madly in love with your best friend.
Accept that she will never feel the same for you.
Do it all over again once every year.
Then you can talk to me about justice.

Kneel by her bed and dry her tears.
Wake her up from the nightmares that are real.
Call her "Little sister" when she needs a real family.
Then you can talk to me about love.

Watch her smile at the man she really loves.
Help them get together when life keeps them apart.
Throw your own broken heart on the fire to just be her friend.
Then you can talk to me about joy.

Stop going to sleep because you can't stand waking up.
Live from day to day because you're not allowed to die.
Give up hope because wishing makes it not come true.
Then you can talk to me about dreams.

Become too terrified of life to ever be scared of death.
Stop making promises because never lasts so much longer than always.
Help a stranger to live the only thing you've ever dreamed.
Then you can talk to me about hope.

Better yet, just don't talk to me.
