Post hoc ergo propter hoc.

Latin for "There's no such thing as a coincidence." This is the assumption that if event B happens after event A, then event B must have happened because of event A. I.e. if you watch the X-files after you eat dinner, you must be watching the X-Files because you ate dinner. It would be nice if causality were that simple, but it just doesn't work that way.
